ARS CONCERT SEASON 2019-2020

“For the 2019-20 season, ARS will showcase choral standards with a twist of complex and musically exhilarating arrangements.” –Ryan Phillips, M.M., Music Director

Please join the Arizona Repertory Singers as we proudly celebrate our 2019-2020 Concert Season. Hailed by audiences throughout Southern Arizona for its blend, technical precision, and vocal artistry, ARS is a rigorously auditioned and trained community of volunteer singers that has been a Tucson treasure for 35 years. We share the belief that there is nothing more transformative than the human voice lifted in song.

Prepare for the familiar – and the unexpected. This 2019/20 season will offer many new works to help breathe new life into ARS live performances while maintaining an emphasis on beautiful sound.

Our holiday concerts will bring back pieces from our traditional repertoire – allowing audiences to experience the haunting beauty of Francis Poulenc and the English cadence of Thomas Tallis – and, we will also perform new and rollicking selections. Anticipate innovative arrangements of holiday favorites, like Ding, Dong Merrily on High by John Rutter, Hark! In 7/8 (exactly what it sounds like) by Steven Landau and “Bring Us Good Ale” by Gustav Holst. ARS will also sing a carol from Puerto Rico that will send your spirits dancing, and achingly beautiful works by Ola Gjeilo, Connor Koppin, and Kim Andre Arnesen, among others.

April 2020 concerts will explore the relationship we have with one another and our world, including connections in faith, music, and love. You will hear classics by Purcell, Brahms, Finzi, and Vaughan Williams alongside the work of William Billings (first American composer of psalms and hymns), a mid-20th century American spiritual, a traditional South African Xhosa song, a Basque hymn, and a great arrangement of an anthem by Dolly Parton (yes, you read that correctly). Join us in what promises to be a rejuvenating and joyous season of song!

The ARS mission continues to expand under the direction of our new music director, Ryan Phillips. He envisions a future for ARS that features an even greater commitment to the choral culture of our community with more … singers, venues, ambitious performances with local arts organizations and more outreach to those who have yet to experience the joy of live choral music.

Ticket sales fund only a small portion of our vision to present quality choral music, or choral music with orchestra and soloists, which enhances our diverse cultural heritage in Tucson. Become a valued partner by contributing to the mission, and future success of ARS. Your generosity will complete the vision.

Raise your voice and make a difference as an ARS donor, sponsor or advertiser!
